Dual Nationality Germany

Dual Nationality Germany

Germany ponders give dual citizenship to foreign professionals
The German Economy Minister is considering offering dual citizenship to qualified foreigners to become more attractive to their migration to Germany.

The minister, who makes the proposal on the eve of the second Demographic German Summit, considers that the first European economy must articulate a "true culture of welcome" to facilitate the arrival of human capital.

A key element in this strategy is "the provision of dual nationality," the country should "allow," said Philipp Rösler to the business daily Handelsblatt.

"For Germany, as for many other countries, the growing need for qualified personnel is a good challenge," added the minister, who is also the leader of the German Liberal Party (FDP), taking as reference the Canadian model for fostering immigration.

Rösler stressed that Germany needs qualified personnel to remain "competitive and innovative."

The German government says it needs for years tens of thousands of professionals, especially engineers and computer to maintain its level of economic growth and its global relevance.
