The Finance Minister of Cyprus, Michalis Sarris, resigned from office today and will be replaced by Labour Minister Haris Georgiades, reported the daily Phileleftheros on its website.
On Sunday, the head of the powerful Orthodox Church of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II, had appealed the dismissal of Sarris and the central bank governor, Panicos Demetriades, deemed responsible for the collapse of the banking system in the Mediterranean island.
